Nommon receives the ITS & Big Data award at the 25th Spanish ITS Congress

The jury has recognised Nommon’s trajectory as a pioneering company in mobility data analysis in Spain, the technical expertise of its team, and its contribution to the transport sector.
As part of the Spanish ITS Congress, held from 18 to 20 February 2025 at the Institute of Engineering of Spain, Nommon was awarded the “ITS & Big Data” prize for its pioneering trajectory in mobility data analysis in Spain, the technical capabilities of its team, and its contribution to the transport sector. The jury highlighted Nommon’s expertise in developing creative solutions and new approaches to data analysis and transport modelling, positioning the company as a global leader in mobility analytics. The award was announced by Jaime Huerta, Secretary-General of ITS Spain, and presented by Francisco Javier Gómez López, Director of Strategic Planning and Operations of the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium, during the congress’s closing ceremony on Thursday, 20 February. Ricardo Herranz, CEO of Nommon, received the award and expressed his gratitude, highlighting the hard work of the entire Nommon team and the importance of collaboration with clients, researchers, and industry stakeholders to continue innovating and launching projects that enhance knowledge sharing and promote transport sustainability.
This year, the congress celebrated its 25th edition, once again bringing together numerous professionals from the sector to discuss advancements in intelligent transport systems. The theme of this edition, “Road to ITS Sevilla 2025,” marked the transition towards the European ITS Congress, which will take place in Seville in May 2025. Throughout the event, key projects in the ITS field were presented, and discussions were held on new technologies and trends related to transport digitalisation and sustainability. Topics included the challenges and opportunities of autonomous and connected mobility, improvements in interurban traffic, the deployment of low-emission zones, the use of data for mobility management, data spaces, and the optimisation of public transport.
Nommon’s participation in the Congress
As in previous years, Nommon contributed to the congress with various presentations in key sessions on data-driven mobility and public transport management.
The first presentation was delivered by Ricardo Herranz, who participated in the session “Data analysis and use for mobility management.” His talk, “Connected vehicle data in mobility analysis: use cases and integration with mobile phone data,” explored the fusion of connected vehicle data with mobile phone records, vehicle counts, and other data sources to enhance traffic characterisation. The session presented three case studies focused on trip matrix estimation, route distribution analysis for freight vehicle mobility characterisation, and the assessment of road safety for vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists. These studies were carried out as part of the European projects InPercept, CONDUCTOR, and SOTERIA, in collaboration with other Nommon team members: Jerónimo Bueno, Raquel Sánchez, Marta Alonso, and Oliva García Cantú Ros.
The second presentation was given by Rubén Artime, Director of the Transport Systems Department at Nommon, who presented “AI-based platform for the integrated optimisation of public transport and bike-sharing services” in the “Data and public transport” session. Rubén showcased Nommon’s progress in developing a demand prediction platform using artificial intelligence in collaboration with AUVASA (Autobuses Urbanos de Valladolid). This tool, which integrates Nommon’s WiseTransit and WiseRide solutions, leverages big data sources and machine learning techniques to forecast mobility demand and optimise public transport and bike-sharing systems in Valladolid. The presentation was prepared with contributions from Nommon team members, Inés Peirats, Manuel Sánchez, and Ignacio Blasco, Transport Systems Product Managers, as well as AUVASA engineers, Miriam Sacristán and Adrián Rodríguez.
A recognition of innovation in mobility
The ITS Spain 2025 Awards recognised professionals, projects, and companies for their contributions and achievements in the transport and mobility sector. Alongside Nommon, the other recognised companies were CPS, GMV, and Zitrón. At Nommon, we are proud to share this award with these companies, which, like us, work every day to make transport a more intelligent and sustainable sector.
For Nommon, the “ITS & Big Data” award acknowledges the hard work of our entire team and strengthens our commitment to innovation and the development of advanced solutions that help us better understand, plan, and manage mobility. Through the use of big data and artificial intelligence, we aim to continue transforming data into knowledge and tools that enable companies and institutions to make better, data-driven decisions, optimising resources and ensuring the transition towards more sustainable models. With this recognition, Nommon consolidates its position as a leader in mobility analytics through new big data sources and as a cutting-edge technology developer. We will continue to invest in research, continuous learning, and the integration of emerging technologies to drive progress in the sector and contribute to the digital transformation of transport.
