Nommon Brasil presents its first online course on big data and mobility
- The course “Advanced techniques for mobility analysis using mobile phone data and other big data sources” is aimed at professionals involved in the planning and management of mobility, transport and traffic.
- The training will be held on March 31 and April 1, 2022.
Nommon Brasil, a technology company specialised in the provision of information, analysis and decision support tools for the planning and management of transport and traffic systems, has organised its first online training in Brazil: an online course aimed at professionals, both in the public administration and in the private sector, who work in the planning and management of transport, mobility and traffic.
The course “Advanced techniques for mobility analysis using mobile phone data and other big data sources” focuses on the use of geolocated data from mobile devices for the provision of information on mobility and travel demand. It will teach how to identify the most appropriate data sources for each project, specify the required demand information, and how to exploit the information generated by Nommon’s analytical solution.
Big data and transportation
The use of personal mobile devices (mobile phones, smart transport cards, driving GPS, etc.) has opened the opportunity to study the mobility of the population on an ongoing basis and at a much lower cost than traditional methods. In particular, anonymised data from mobile phone networks is especially interesting for this purpose, thanks to the possibility of obtaining large samples of data from practically all segments of the population.
Nommon Mobility Analytics‘ solution, focused on the analysis of these records and their fusion with other data sources to generate origin-destination matrices and other demand indicators, is the result of an intense research effort aimed at meeting the needs of the transportation industry. Nommon’s technology is widely recognised as one of the most advanced solutions in this field worldwide, which has allowed the company to develop large-scale projects, such as the one carried out for the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, the “Mobility analysis in Spain during the state of emergency using Big Data technology“, a study to characterise mobility at the national, provincial and local levels to support the monitoring of the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic, to evaluate the effectiveness of the restrictions adopted, and to assist the Government in decision-making during this period.
About the course
The online course “Advanced techniques for mobility analysis using mobile phone data and other big data sources” will teach attendees how to identify the best suited data sources for each project, and how to get the most out of the information generated on mobility and travel demand. The training program has been divided into two sessions that will be held on March 31 and April 1, 2022 (Thursday and Friday mornings). The first session will be focused on the new data sources available, the methodology to study mobility using data from mobile phone networks, and the analysis of urban mobility. On Friday, the training will move on to interurban mobility and will include different examples and case studies on both urban and interurban mobility, with a final space to debate and answer any question. The teaching materials and the whole course will be conducted in Portuguese.
